In 2005, Prince Harry was forced to apologise to the Prince of Wales for turning up at a fancy dress party wearing a Nazi swastika.

Prince William was with his brother at a gathering hosted by Richard Meade, the triple Olympic gold medallist and close friend of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

The theme of the party attended by 400 revellers at Mr Meade’s equestrian centre in Wiltshire was Colonials and Natives.

Prince Harry, then 20, appeared sporting the apparently home-made swastika on the left arm of a military-style shirt.

The Prince of Wales was reportedly appalled by his son’s lack of judgment in plunging the Royal Family into an embarrassing row.

Harry apologised immediately.
