The new centre has disabled changing rooms and toilets, hoists throughout the centre and wheelchair friendly lockers.

It will be run by Kirklees Active Leisure which manages leisure facilities on behalf of Kirklees Council.

David Heddon, chairman of the KAL Board of Trustees, said: “At last the wait is nearly over.

“The new Leisure Centre is an amazing building and I’m sure it will prove to be very popular with both local people and visitors to the area. KAL are very proud to manage this excellent new facility and we’ll be trying our best to encourage as many people as possible to visit and make use of the new leisure centre.

“The Council has done a great job in providing such a wonderful facility and I am confident it will be a major success.”
