Huge response to TV rape appeal

Police investigating the rape of a 50 year old woman in Barnsley received more than 40 calls offering help after it featured on BBC Crimewatch.

Det Chief Insp Sean Middleton, of South Yorkshire Police, said police were “delighted” with the outcome and there were “definite lines of enquiry” to follow.

The attack happened in June as the victim walked her dog at Elsecar reservoir in the town. The man struck as she walked on a footpath in broad daylight.
