Huge tailbacks as M62 closed

Police closed the busy stretch of motorway between junction 24 at Huddersfield and junction 22 at Rishworth Moor in both directions this afternoon after a crash which involved two lorries and a van.

Some drivers stuck in queues for several hours have been condemned for attempting central reservation u-turns.

One lorry driver is said to have sustained minor injuries, while Yorkshire Air Ambulance came to the aid of another who was more seriously hurt.

The road is expected to be fully open by 8pm.

West Yorkshire Police has advised motorists to plan alternative routes or face long delays.
