Hull community is disrupted by travellers setting up camp in a local park

Police have stepped up patrols in an area of Hull while the council takes steps to evict travellers who have set up camp on a park.

The numbers of travellers increased even more yesterday at Pickering Park and has prompted concerns and complaints from nearby residents.

Travellers have been at the park for a week and Humberside Police say it is having an impact on the community whose lives and access have been disrupted as a result.

Chief Supt Phil Ward said: “We are working with local councillors and Hull City Council to help and reassure residents while Hull City Council continue with the legal process to evict those on the park.

“Officers are patrolling this area with support from our specially trained liaison officers that work closely with the residents and the travelling community. I want to reassure people we are responding to all reports of criminal activity, as we did so on Friday evening following several reports from concerned residents.

“All offences are being investigated and I would ask that anyone seeing any crime being committed to contact us on 101 so that we can deal with it swiftly.”
