Hundred years of back-to-back living

Museum assistants Jim Humphries and Lauren Padgett in front of a refurbished row of back-to-back homes which were officially opened yesterday at Bradford Industrial Museum by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Dale Smith. The terraces have been redeveloped to show the social history of Bradford.

The first shows a stark bedroom from 1875; the second is a typical home from 1942 and the third shows the garish colours of 1975.

Coun Smith, accompanied by the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Margaret Smith, gave a speech during a day of free activities for families. The council-run museum has a redecorated Victorian wash day room and a new Dig for Victory garden. PICTURE: JAMES HARDISTY.
