Hundreds prove game for a day out at showground fair

HUNDREDS of people flocked to North Yorkshire at the weekend to get a taste of rural life at a leading game and country fair.

The Pickering Game and Country Fair, which is held annually at the town’s show- ground, has gradually increased in size and stature, and this year’s fair saw leading names within the country sport fraternity stage a wide range of demonstrations to showcase rural life.

The fair attracts hundreds of exhibitors as well as visitors from across the country, who were given the opportunity at the weekend to learn more about country sports and pursuits including clay pigeon shooting, archery and fly fishing under the guidance of leading experts.

The central display ring also staged dog agility demonstrations as well as falconry and owl flying shows.

The crowds were entertained with Lurcher and terrier racing displays and a food marquee and cookery school gave visitors the opportunity to sample some of the region’s finest food and drink.

The UK Tractor Show displayed some of the best-known vehicles in the country, with hundreds of examples on show.

The showground, which is set in acres of parkland close to the North York Moors, boasts a purpose-built tractor pulling area which provides a popular vantage point for visitors.
