As many as 500 people aged from 11 upwards are expected to attend the event at Halifax’s Madni Mosque, which will take place from 4pm to 6pm next Saturday, August 13.

Organisers at the town’s Central Mosque say it is being held in a bid to “refute ISIS and their ideology”.

Attendees will hear from Shaykh Ibrar Shafi, an expert in the ways in which Islamic State subverts the teachings of Islam for its own twisted ends.

Calderdale Council’s Coun Faisal Shoukat said: “The event will equip the young people with the necessary skills to counter online extremism in Arabic and English.

“It is going to be quite a significant day and the first of many to come as we work with the local authority and the police to develop strategies for improving skill sets.”
