Hundreds sign up for Peak District Walk For All

MORE than 800 fundraisers have now signed up to take part in the first-ever Peaks Walk for All, in aid of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural Dales Walk for All, the charity has organised a sister event in the Peak District on Sunday, April 28.

To cater for all levels of ability, three walks will be held – a five-mile route, a 12-mile route and a more challenging 24-mile hike.

A spokesman for the appeal said: “We are up to more than 800 entries now, with the most popular distance being the 12-mile route. Tickets are still available on the train for those doing the 12-mile and four-mile walks.”

Train company Northern Rail has donated a number of tickets for those travelling from Sheffield station and other stops along the Hope Valley line to Hope, for the start of the walks.

When signing up for the Peaks Walk for All on the website, people are offered the chance to buy one of the special tickets for £10. All proceeds will then go directly to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, rather than to Northern Rail.

Northern Rail managing director Ian Bevan said: “Our partnership with the Jane Tomlinson Appeal is one we are extremely proud of and once again we are delighted to be able to provide extra seats on our trains, as well as donating the revenue from ticket sales to a fantastic cause.”

The Peak District was chosen as the location for the second Walk For all as Mrs Tomlinson enjoyed hiking in the area with her family, prior to her untimely death.

Her widower Mike Tomlinson, who will be taking part on the day, said: “Jane loved to walk in the Peak District, it was one of her very favourite parts of the country.

“We always wanted to do something down here and, after the success of the Dales Walk for All last year, thought it was the ideal place to hold an event.

“I hope more people sign up.”
