Hunt for blood donors

People who have had their lives saved thanks to blood donations were among those who came out to celebrate the start of National Blood Week in Leeds.

Recipient David Copes, centre, is joined by, from left: donor Simon Firth, NHS blood workers Katie Burgon and Sarah Wraith and donor Roy Coggan in Briggate as the NHS Blood and Transplant service spent the day talking to people in Briggate in the city centre in a bid to spread awareness of the importance of giving blood.

A spokesman said that those who made regular donations were “dedicated blood donors, whose simple and selfless acts of generosity save lives each and every day”. The event also featured a performance by members of the Slack and Tight Amateur Repertory Society (Stars) and Leeds Carriageworks. picture: mike cowling.
