Hunt goes on
for holiday hiker from Yorkshire

A HOLIDAYMAKER from Yorkshire is still missing more than a week after vanishing while hiking in mountains near the Costa del Sol in Spain.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed yesterday that Gordon Simm, 63, from Kirkbymoorside in North Yorkshire, has still to be traced.

He had been on holiday with his wife, Wendy, when he headed out on a walk in the Sierra Almijara mountains near Nerja, east of Malaga, on July 21.

The hike was due to last a day-and-a-half, but Mrs Simm reported her husband, an experienced walker, missing on Sunday evening after he failed to return to their hotel.

The search has involved mountain rescue units, a helicopter and specially trained dogs.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed yesterday that it is continuing to provide consular assistance.
