Hunt for hit and run drivers after man, 39, killed walking home

A PEDESTRIAN died from his injuries after being struck by three cars, including two which failed to stop, in Yorkshire early yesterday.

Detectives are now searching for those two motorists as part of their investigation into the death of Stephen Wood, 39, from Ilkley, who was walking on the A65 Skipton Road between Ilkley and Addingham after spending the evening at a pub.

The incident happened just after midnight. Police appealed for anyone with suspicions about the identity of the drivers involved to contact them.

A woman, apparently driving the car which first hit Mr Wood and who stopped at the scene, was interviewed yesterday.

Last night officers refused to reveal further details of the circumstances of the death, but Det Sgt Carole Clayton said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was drinking with him or saw him after he left the pub.

“We are urging the drivers of both of the cars that didn’t stop after colliding with Stephen to contact us. I would also ask anyone who has suspicions about a friend or relative being involved to let us know.
