A MAN suspected of knowingly infecting his lover with HIV is being hunted by police in Huddersfield.

Jamaican-born Jermaine Scott, 27, is believed to have lived in the UK for at least five years, has links to Merseyside, Wolverhampton and London as well as Huddersfield.

A Cheshire police spokeswoman said: ''It is not believed that Scott poses a risk to the public as a whole.

"However there is potential for risk of harm to those in a domestic relationship with him. Detectives advise that any sightings be reported to police so that the information can be acted upon. Additionally, police appeal to Scott himself to come forward and present himself at his nearest police station.''

Anyone who knowingly infects another person with HIV can be charged with grievous bodily harm.

Scott's former partner, a mother-of-two from Cheshire, decided to make the complaint because she is worried that Scott could put other women at risk. When she confronted him it is alleged he confirmed he was infected. She was tested and discovered that she also had the virus. She believes Scott knew he had the virus for more than four years.

She said she had considered suicide since discovering she was infected but is determined to stay strong for her children.

She said: "If it was not for my children I wouldn't be here today."
