Hunt for rugby thugs who assaulted father

A FRESH PLEA for help has been made by British Transport Police after a father was punched and rugby tackled to the ground for defending his 14-year-old son from two thugs.

The 46-year-old victim and his son, from Leeds, were on a train coming back from the Leeds Rhinos-St Helens game on August 7 when two men in Leeds shirts accused the teenage boy of pushing.

When his father questioned the men, he was struck in the face and dragged to the floor.

As the train arrived at Dewsbury, the father was pushed onto the platform.

The attack was only stopped when other passengers intervened.

The suspects left the train at Dewsbury, but not before threatening the man's son.

PC Berni Grogan said: "This was a completely unprovoked assault on a father and his son."
