Hunt on for Stumpy, the toeless hen

Joanne Ginley

POLICE are asking bird fanciers and poultry keepers around Kirklees to be on the look out for a toeless hen called Stumpy and five of her feathered friends.

Six Partridge Wyandotte Bantams were taken from a coop at a house on Dalton Bank Road in Dalton, Huddersfield, overnight last Wednesday and Thursday.

Police say the cockerel and five hens could be sold for show purposes at a local market but as all six are all ringed and distinctive they would probably attract attention..

One of the hens, which were bought for show and egg laying, is called Stumpy because she has no toes on one foot. The hens are drabber birds than the cockerel, which has a golden head and back.

Officers at Huddersfield’s south neighbourhood police team have asked to be called on 01484 436724 by anyone who may know their whereabouts.
