Hunt for thug after assault at club facing licence inquiry

POLICE in Grimsby are appealing for help to find a man wanted over an assault in Grimsby that left another man with head and face injuries.

The victim, 21, was walking to a friend's house after visiting a takeaway when he saw another friend involved in trouble outside Secrets nightclub in Pasture Street at about 2.20am.

He stepped in to help but was assaulted and punched in the head before being pushed onto the bonnet of a car.

During the attack, the victim ripped the suspect's white T-shirt leaving him bare-chested, at which point the suspect ran back into the club.

The suspect is white, between 6ft 2in and 6ft 5in tall, of medium to chubby build, in his late twenties or early thirties and has short, dark hair.

North East Lincolnshire Council's licensing committee will meet next Wednesday to review the licence of Secrets and the Venue, part of the same establishment on the same premises. It follows police concerns about crime and disorder at the venue.

Humberside Police spokesman James Cartwright said: "This type of incident is a cause for concern and as such this is part of an ongoing review of the premises' licence in conjunction with the licensee."

Today the committee is also due to meet to review the licence of a nightclub in Cleethorpes, which was suspended after police raised "serious concerns" about the way it was managed.

Last month, Flares nightclub in Alexandra Road, Cleethorpes, was forced to close following an attack at 2am on Sunday, March 7, that left a man with serious head and face injuries.

The 26-year-old was hurt during an "altercation" near the smoking area at the rear of the premises.

His injuries left him in a critical condition and he was transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary after initially being taken to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.

Police have arrested seven men in connection with the incident and inquiries are continuing.

Anyone with information about the incident outside Secrets should call Humberside Police on 0845 6060 222.
