Hunt for thugs in unprovoked attack

POLICE have stepped up patrols in part of Bridlington after a man was badly hurt in an unprovoked attack.

The 47-year-old was approached by three men in Belgrave Road and asked for a cigarette, but did not have one.

He was attacked and knocked unconscious as he walked off, and suffered serious internal injuries, broken ribs, a broken shoulder, a possible broken jaw and bruising to his face and body.

He was in a stable condition at Scarborough Hospital yesterday.

Det Sgt Tom Napier, of Bridlington CID, said: “This was a nasty unprovoked attack on a lone man who was going about his daily business. We have increased police patrols in the area to offer reassurance.

“We would urgently like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who can help identify the group of three youths.”
