Hunt for video clips after gang clash

POLICE are hoping to recover mobile phone footage believed to have been taken of a confrontation between gangs of youths on a village cricket pitch.

Up to 70 youths are thought to have taken part in what police describe as a “large-scale incident” in Messingham, near Scunthorpe, on Friday evening, which left some residents fearing for their safety.

Some of those involved are thought to have filmed the clash on their mobile phones and police are asking parents to help them see it.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “This incident involved a lot of people and caused a lot of issues for the local community; many of the residents were left frightened by the incident.

“Local neighbourhood officers and the incident response teams responded quickly and effectively to the scene and a number of teenagers were spoken to by police.

“Police would ask parents who know their children where in the Messingham area on Friday, 1 July, to establish if their mobile phones have any footage that would be of assistance to police.”

Several groups of youths were seen walking through the village before trouble flared on the pitch in Northfield Road.
