Husband accused of murdering wife to be put on trial next year

A man accused of murdering his postmistress wife will go on trial next year, a judge decided yesterday.

Robin Garbutt, 45, denies killing Diana, 40, whose body was found in their home above Melsonby Post Office, North Yorkshire, in March.

His trial was due to start yesterday but last week a judge granted him bail and said a new date would have to be fixed.

Yesterday, Garbutt attended Teesside Crown Court for a three minute hearing.

He spoke only to confirm his name as he stood in the dock wearing a grey suit, white shirt and a dark tie.

The court heard a trial date had now been fixed for March 21, next year.

Garbutt left court after he was again granted bail by the judge.
