Husband in postmistress murder case bailed after 'significant breakthrough'

A MAN accused of murdering his postmistress wife in a North Yorkshire village was granted bail today following a potentially significant breakthrough in the case.

Robin Garbutt, 45, denies killing Diana, 40, whose body was found in their home above Melsonby Post Office in March.

His trial at Teesside Crown Court was due to start next Monday but it will now take place in several months time.

A hearing will be held on Monday to set the new trial date.

Mr Justice Calvert-Smith granted bail pending sureties and he will be released from custody within up to 48 hours.

Garbutt, wearing jeans and a white-checked shirt, has been held on remand since he was charged in April.

He will attend court on Monday.

Family and friends of Garbutt were in court to support him.
