I wasn't at scene of shooting – accused

A MAN accused of a mistaken identity shooting has denied any involvement.

Dwayne Mitchum, 26, of Ryan Place, Leeds, was allegedly recruited to take revenge over a smashed car window but the wrong person was shot, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Yesterday, Mitchum told the jury that he was in a snooker club in Batley on the evening of the shooting, April 6.

Mark McKone, prosecuting, said mobile phone records placed Mitchum at the scene in Red Hall Chase, Whinmoor, Leeds.

Mitchum denied being there, saying he had lost his phone earlier that night.

The prosecution say that the intended target of the shooting was Daniel Wright but it was his father, Christopher, who was shot at close range in the kitchen of his home when he went to answer the back door.

As he got into the kitchen, Mr Wright saw the door was already open and standing on the doorstep was a black man with a single-barrelled shotgun.

The gunman, without saying anything, pulled the trigger and then ran off, leaving the victim badly injured.

The prosecution claim that Mitchum was recruited by Ryan Coleman following an earlier incident involving damage to a car.

Coleman, 21, of East Moor Crescent, Moortown, Leeds, and Mitchum both deny conspiracy to murder Daniel Wright or an alternative of conspiracy to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Coleman also denies conspiracy to assault Daniel .

Mitchum further denies attempted murder of Christopher Wright or the alternative of causing him grievous bodily harm with intent. He also denies gun offences.

The trial continues.
