Iconic buildings crafted in miniature from Lego bricks

Some of the world’s most iconic buildings including Washington’s Lincoln Memorial and Rome’s Trevi Fountain have been recreated in Lego.

More than 50 models on display at The Harley Gallery’s exhibition, Brick City, which is the vision of artist Warren Elsmore who gave up his career as an IT consultant to build his detailed buildings crafted from Lego.

Among the miniature models is a 5ft tall by 5ft long replica of St Pancras station in London, which took more than 500 hours to build over two years. Created from more than 150,000 Lego pieces, the station is a working model with six platforms and trains able to run in and out.

The exhibition at the gallery on the Welbeck Estate, near Worksop, also features other landmark buildings including Westminster Abbey in London, the Olympic Stadium and a Georgian street in Edinburgh.

Yesterday Mr Elsmore was at the gallery putting the finishing touches to his architectural models for his Brick City exhibition, which opens on Saturday and runs until January 10. There is also a chance to play with the brick pieces and activities for children will run throughout the exhibition, including a build a bauble workshop.
