'I'm a Celebrity' winner to join Jane's runners

EVEN though he hasn't done any training – and doesn't plan to – I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here winner Joe Swash is set to take part in this year's Jane Tomlinson 10k run.

The charity run, now in its fourth year, was established as a tribute to the inspirational mother who raised almost 2m during her battle against cancer.

The run takes place on July 4 this year with former EastEnders' actor Mr Swash leading a team and running to raise money for children's cancer charity Sparks. The 10k run is open to all abilities.

Mrs Tomlinson, 43, from Rothwell, near Leeds, raised the amazing sum through a series of gruelling endurance events before losing her seven-year battle with cancer in 2007.

The Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K was set up to stand as her fundraising legacy and the Yorkshire Post is a media partner in the event.

Other celebrities to back the event include Olympic rower Sir Matthew Pinsent who has urged people to take part.

Sir Matthew, a quadruple Olympic gold medallist, spoke last year of the first time he met Mrs Tomlinson during the Great North Run. "She said hello and then ran away from me – I had a grudging respect for her after that," he said.

He said inspirational was a word often over-used when describing people and could be a clich – but it was not a clich to describe her in that way.
