I’m not interested: Lord Mayor accused of walking out of children’s concert

THE Lord Mayor of Hull has been accused of spoiling a children’s charity concert by walking out after six minutes and criticising the event while he was there.

Organisers of the Voice in a Million concert at Hull City Hall, which aimed to raise awareness of children seeking adoption, said parents were left angry and upset by the alleged conduct of Coun Colin Inglis.

They claim that after being shown to his seat he was overheard saying he had no idea why he was there; did not agree with Government plans to reform the adoption process; did not care what David Cameron thought; and was not interested in the children performing who were not from Hull.

The organisation has complained to Hull Council’s civic office and the city’s three MPs.

Choir director Robert Garofalo said: “There are obviously some parents that were very upset at the manner in which their children, and the cause they were promoting, were disregarded in such an unforgivable manner.

“Parents are pretty disgusted. There were 300 kids there from Hull, Beverley and the East Riding and we have received complaints from parents and members of the public.

“We always invite local mayors to these things. We’ve just done one in Dartford and the mayor couldn’t have been more supportive; he stayed for half an hour afterwards to make sure he had his picture taken with every child. That’s the sort of support we normally get.”

Coun Inglis was not available for comment, but is understood to have said he stayed for about 30 minutes watching from the balcony.
