Image released of suspect after attempted sex assault on girl, 12, in Huddersfield

Detectives investigating an attempted sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl in Huddersfield have released an image of a man they are trying to trace.

The girl was targeted on Wednesday, May 24 at around 8.20pm near a wooded area between Priestley Grove and Mansion Gardens in Newsome. 

She was walking home from school when a man grabbed her and pushed her to the floor. 

The girl managed to get away and fled from the scene.

Today (Tuesday), police have released an E-Fit image in a bid to trace the suspect.

Detective Constable Clare Kenworthy, of Kirklees District Police, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for this young girl who was walking home from school. 

"Thankfully she managed to run away from the suspect unharmed, but has been left incredibly upset and shaken due to the incident. 

"We are releasing this image in the hope that someone will recognise the man in the picture and will come forward with any information to assist with our ongoing investigation."

The suspect is described as white, around 36-years-old, of medium build and around 5ft 9ins tall.

He is described as having unwashed brown hair with sideburns.  

The man was wearing a dark grey, or black, loose-fitting top, with three quarter-length sleeves and a round neck.

He was wearing white jeans which were dirty and worn and brown leather, pointed shoes.
