Indians set to jazz up festival

A SPECTACULAR start beckons for Hull Jazz Festival with an appearance by the Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band from Rajasthan – along with a gipsy dancer and a fakir juggler.

The opening show at Hull Truck on July 21 is followed by M People saxophonist Snake Davis, who will be unveiling his new classical jazz project at the theatre on Ferensway in the city the following night.

Davis is appearing with the Snake Strings quartet, whose credentials include performing on the Mercury nominated album The Sea by Corinne Bailey Rae.

American saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis “the man who invented funk for James Brown” plays Hull Truck on July 23. Ellis wrote all 26 of James Brown’s funk hits, as well as being musical director for Van Morrisson.
