Jim Glennie, bassist for headliners James, told the YEP: “I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve never played Roundhay and it’s an incredibly famous place and it’s got history going back to massive sets from Michael Jackson and the Rolling Stones.

“We know we’ve got a massive following in Yorkshire and I’m sure we’ll have people coming down from all over.”

Commenting on the festival’s family-friendly approach, he continued: “In the 21st Century people do have families and it’s not a bad idea to make life easier for them. It adds a different atmosphere and means they can enjoy a day out.”

OnRoundhay, which will be the sister festival to London’s established OnBlackheath event, will be the first major live music event in the park since Robbie Williams’ 2006 show.

The event has been masterminded by legendary promoter Harvey Goldsmith CBE, who has promoted gigs on the site with the likes of Madonna and Bruce Springsteen, alongside Leeds City Council. Goldsmith added: “The event will follow the same format as OnBlackheath, with fantastic music, great curated food and lots of activities for kids of all ages.”

Adult tickets for OnRoundhay cost £45 and can be ordered without a booking fee until July 10. For further details visit onroundhayfestival.com.
