Industrialist retains NHS position

A SHEFFIELD industrialist has been reappointed to a £40,000-a-year post to oversee the city's primary care trust until it is abolished under the new Government's NHS reorganisation.

Tony Pedder, who is also chairman of Sheffield Forgemasters, was reappointed last week as chairman of NHS Sheffield, which has a budget of 1bn a year. He has held the position since 2006.

Mr Pedder said: "I am delighted and honoured to have been re-appointed to the position of chair with NHS Sheffield and to be able to continue our efforts to get the best possible service for the people of Sheffield.

"We have been making excellent progress in ensuring that people in the city receive just the healthcare they need. We now face a new structure for commissioning being introduced in the months ahead.

"I am determined that NHS Sheffield plays a full part in effecting a smooth transition, ensuring the new arrangements build on what we have achieved to date and make our health service even better for Sheffield people," he added.
