Industry award for new civic offices

A TOP building award has been won by Doncaster’s new civic offices, part of the town’s £300m Civic and Cultural Quarter.

It was announced yesterday that the building has been named “Winner of Winners” at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.

The project, which reached completion in October last year, also received the “Commercial Building over £1m” award at the LABC’s annual South Yorkshire and Humber awards ceremony, held earlier this month.

Designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects, the five-storey civic offices were built by Wates Construction for Doncaster Council and partner Muse Developments.

Coun Bob Johnson, Doncaster Council’s spokesman for regeneration, said: “It is tremendous news that this landmark building in the heart of Doncaster’s new Civic and Cultural Quarter has been recognised by LABC.

“It illustrates what Wates Construction have achieved by working closely with the council’s regeneration team.

“The building is a key element of this major town centre regeneration scheme, which will help attract new investment, jobs, growth and visitors to Doncaster.”
