Information day for cancer patients

CANCER patients and their relatives can find out more about the condition at an event being held in Hull next month.

Hull Royal Infirmary will host the event on Saturday June 18 from 9am to 1pm at the East Riding Medical Education Centre.

Updates on how cancer is being diagnosed and treated as well as workshops on chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the Macmillan Team form part of the event, which will also see stalls offering information on issues affecting cancer patients from finance to sexual dysfunction.

Dr Donal Sharp from the Oncology Health Centre at the Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology will give a talk on “how to cope with cancer”.

Former cancer patient Jenny Walton urged people to go along.

Ms Walton said: “When you are first diagnosed with cancer it can be a life-changing moment and it is really helpful to know what kind of support is out there for you.

“There are many things that you often don’t consider immediately such as spending time off work, the feelings of your relatives and the longer-term issues that can arise from having a disease like cancer.”
