Injured man rescued after 30ft cliffs plunge

A man who plunged 30ft down a cliff was winched to safety by an RAF helicopter yesterday following a search and rescue operation over Scarborough's busy South Bay.

Ian Hackett, 55, who is believed to be a local man, fell at 3.45pm from a section of cliff near Cornelian Drive and St Michael's Lane, near the South Cliff golf course.

North Yorkshire Police were already in attendance when a coastguard team was scrambled and a Sea King helicopter called out from RAF Leconfield, near Beverley.
