Internet sales alert after parrot con

POLICE in South Yorkshire have issued a warning to people thinking of buying items over the internet after a couple in Barnsley were conned out of £320.

The pair visited a website where users could search for and buy birds. After seeing an advert for a macaw, they agreed to pay the 230 via money transfer website Moneygram.

After their parrot never arrived the couple contacted police and realised they had been victims of fraud.

Pc Nick Mount from South Yorkshire Police said: "You should be cautious of all internet sales and ensure you read all website policies and safety advice before approving a sale.

"Like the Moneygram website states, it should only be used for transfer between two known parties so if you are asked to use this as part of a transaction, please decline and stop all contact with the advertiser."
