Investigators to probe cause of scrapyard fire after crews battle through night

A fire investigation is due to begin after a blaze at a scrapyard involving several tonnes of aluminium.

Crews from five stations spent last night bringing the fire in Royston under control.

Pumps from Cudworth, Barnsley, Dearne, Tankersley and Rotherham were called to the scene in Boulder Bridge Lane just after 10.30pm.

They spent a number of hours putting out the flames engulfing the scrap metal.

A South Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said one crew remained at the scene at 8am this morning as they continued to damp down the smouldering metal.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once it is completely out.
