IT expert lands key university role

A NEW pro-vice chancellor has been appointed at Sheffield Hallam University, following the retirement of Professor Christine Booth.

Professor Adrian Hopgood, currently dean of the faculty of technology at Leicester’s De Montfort University, has been named the new pro-vice-chancellor dean of Sheffield Business School and will take up his post on September 1. He was born in Hampshire and holds a physics degree, as well as a PhD from Oxford and an MBA from the Open University.

The professor has published more than 100 research papers, as well as the textbook Intelligent Systems for Engineers and Scientists.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Sheffield Business School at such a key stage in its development and look forward to building on the excellent work that has not only embedded the school regionally but also placed it on the national and international stage.

“My expertise in IT for business will allow me to cross traditional academic boundaries and to support the city region in its business growth strategy, which includes a focus on engineering and creative industries.”
