The ten-year-old youngster, from Pool-in-Wharfedale, was joined by family and was presented with a special birthday cake made by her grandmother Barbara Taylor, ahead of a party later this month with friends.

Speaking before Charlotte’s big day, her mother, Vivienne, said: “She is extremely excited and she knows it is a bit special, she knows it’s a once in a lifetime experience.”

Charlotte was due to be born in November but when nature intervened, she was handed the unique chance for a special birthday.

Mrs Lewis, 44, said: “She was not supposed to be born in October, she was supposed to be born on her granddad’s birthday on November 3 but she was in a breech position throughout the pregnancy and she tried to turn around so I had to have an emergency Caesarean section.”

The staff nurse, who works at Leeds General Infirmary, added: “Charlotte is a vivacious, lively and very happy little child. She is great, fabulous company and lovely to have around.”
