Jackie Onassis necklace sells for £30,000

A necklace once owned by Jackie Onassis sold for £30,000 yesterday at auction.

The triple strand simulated pearl necklace went under the hammer at Bonhams' Pioneers of Popular Culture sale at the inaugural Vintage at Goodwood Festival, near Chichester, West Sussex. The auction realised 346,710 in total.

The sale, which celebrated various items from 1940 to 1990, also featured two other pieces of jewellery owned by the former First Lady. The fashion icon was seen wearing pearl and diamond ear clips, which fetched 15,600 and a simulated pearl necklace, which made 6,000, during the 1960s.

Top prices were also paid for Jaguar cars. A 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 was the top lot of the day selling for 60,000 while a 1961 Jaguar Mk2 made 25,200.
