A MAN who admitted attacking and robbing a student after a homosexual encounter in Leeds city centre was jailed for 40 months.

Leeds Crown Court heard yesterday Richard Danter and his victim met in a gay pub. Philip Adams prosecuting said the pair left the pub for some “sexual activity” but as the the complainant began to sober up he tried to push Danter away. Danter then grabbed him by his throat and told him he would not get hurt if he did as he was told. He claimed to have a knife, although none was produced, and threw the terrified student against a wall before demanding money.

In tears the student handed over 10 but when that was not enough agreed to go with Danter to get more from a cash machine. Danter was escorting him in Lower Briggate, gripping his arm, when the student pulled free and ran off.

Danter, 25, of Edinburgh Avenue, Armley, Leeds, was arrested and said his memory of events was vague because he had drunk 20 bottles of vodka mix and some shorts that night.

He had woken up the following morning with the money and was shocked by his own actions.

Narinder Sekhon, for Danter, said he accepted he had a “colossal” drink problem.
