Jamie food drive is just what the doctor ordered

EATING well to stay healthy will be the message of the day when a West Yorkshire medical centre hosts celebrity chef Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food.

The project, designed to show people how to cook affordable and nutritious meals, will allow visitors to Yeadon's Tarn Medical Practice to take part in a special demonstration session featuring a representative from the Ministry of Food in Leeds.

The visit on Wednesday, September 29 will be the first time the project has been hosted by a GP practice.

Jamie's Ministry of Food provides 10-week cookery courses in a special kitchen, by staff trained by Jamie Oliver's team.

The scheme is part of the chef's international campaign to inspire and teach people how to cook simple nutritious meals from scratch on any budget, and help combat obesity.

Dr Duncan Robson, senior partner, said: "We are delighted to be the first GP practice in the UK to host demonstrations by the Ministry of Food. The demonstrations mark the beginning of our newly launched health awareness programme at Yeadon Tarn Medical Practice in Leeds."

Jamie's Ministry of Food in Leeds is based at Kirkgate Market and is one of three such centres in the country – the others are in Bradford and Rotherham.

Anyone wishing to take part in the free one-off session should sign up in advance by visiting Yeadon Tarn Medical Practice in Silver Lane or by calling 0844 477 3780.
