JAPANESE drum rhythms and ju-jitsu demonstrations entertained shoppers and tourists in York yesterday.
Drummers from the local group Kaminari Taiko, above, put on a display with York Jitsu Club. It was organised by the National Railway Museum to publicise its Japan Festival, which is running until April 28. It is centred on the Japanese bullet train, the Shinkansen, which became one of the museum’s prize exhibits 10 years ago. As a special treat for the festival, visitors will be allowed into the cab. They will be asked to sign a book of condolence for Japan’s recent earthquake and tsunami tragedies which struck on March 11.
