Jealous boyfriend killed partner

A JEALOUS and domineering boyfriend unlawfully killed his partner a coroner ruled yesterday.

Bartlowiej Jakub Bozek, 33, known as “Bart”, was found hanging at the Bradford home he shared with his girlfriend, Karolina Wasilewska, 28, whose body was discovered under the bed.

Their bodies are thought to have been undiscovered in a flat for some time before they were found, a resumed inquest at Bradford Coroner’s Court was told.

They were found only after Kasim Hussain, a nephew of the landlord, Jamil Ashraf, from whom they were renting the flat, on Hallfield Road, Manningham, called to collect the rent.

In a statement read by coroner, Professor Paul Marks, Mr Hussain said he made the gruesome discovery at 8.53pm on January 17. He had knocked at the door and when there was no answer let himself in using a spare key.

He said: “I could still hear the TV as I entered, I put the key into the lock and turned the handle. It was as if something was obstructing from the inside. The TV illuminated the room and I then saw what was blocking the door – it was like a mannequin.

“I was hit by the awful smell. At the time I was scared.”

Police were called and found Miss Wasilewska’s body under the bed in bin liners and covered with a quilt.

The court heard both Polish nationals suffered from serious drink problems and there had been complaints from residents about their noise and arguments.

Giving evidence, Det Chief Supt Mark Riley said officers had spoken to Bozek’s former partner Barbara Brudzinska who described him as violent and said he had once choked her with his hands.

A post mortem revealed Miss Wasilewska had died after pressure had been applied around her neck.

Prof Marks said Bozek had killed his partner and then taken his own life. He said: “These are two tragic cases. I can’t imagine the anguish the families are feeling. Although not in court I would like to express my sympathy to the families.”
