Jewellery worth £40,000 stolen from shop

DETECTIVES are hunting burglars who stole up to £40,000 worth of jewellery and watches after smashing through the roof of a shop in Rotherham.

The offenders entered The Gold Den jewellers and Lionel's watch shop, in the Riverside Precinct, between 1.45am and 2.30am on Friday and stole a number of high-value watches and jewellery, including gold chains, bracelets, rings and earrings.

South Yorkshire Police said some of the items were made on the premises and hallmarked "AH" and many featured a Rotherham United badge or the letters RUFC.

Police want to hear from any local jewellers or dealers who may have been offered the stolen goods.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about the burglary or the stolen items, is asked to contact Detective Constable Iain Martin, at Rotherham Reactive CID, on 01709 832262 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
