Job-boosting discount store to open

HALF a million pounds is set to be spent on opening up a new discount store in Doncaster, which would create 30 new jobs in the area.

Home Bargains already has a branch at The Colonnades in Doncaster town centre and is now set to open up in Doncaster Road, Denaby Main, on Saturday, June 5.

Unlike most other retailers, Home Bargains has seen an upturn in sales during the recession, and has plans to open up 50 new stores across the UK over the next year.

TJ Morris, which operates as Home Bargains, has acquired 25 former Woolworths outlets from the administrator – most of which are already open for trading – and plans to purchase further stores directly from the landlords.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: "Home Bargains is excited to be opening this new store in Conisbrough, building further on the success of our The Colonnades store.

"Conisbrough will be a great location for us."

Home Bargains sells discount household goods, food, drinks and alcohol and currently has more than 190 stores nationwide.

The former Woolworths store on The Moor in Sheffield, meanwhile, has been taken over by clothing chain Peacocks and is set to open its doors on Thursday, June 24.
