Jobs scheme helps people into work in South Yorkshire’s coalfield communities

A SCHEME to help jobless in former coalfield areas of South Yorkshire has helped more than 80 people looking for work in its first three months.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s Family Employment Initiative, in the Dearne Valley area, has helped secure 11 jobs since it was established. Working with Ladbrokes Community Fund, it has hired a dedicated advisor to work within the communities to help those who have become or are facing unemployment.

Andy Lock, head of social investment, said the programmer had already had a “real and lasting impact” on the lives of people living within the coalfield communities.

“It is strategic partnerships like this that make all the difference to families who are otherwise left without the help, support and guidance they need,” he added.
