Jubilee makeover for waxwork Queen

The Queen is getting a makeover ahead of this summer’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Artists at Madame Tussauds are creating a new version of their wax figure of the monarch, the 23rd incarnation since she first appeared at the London attraction in 1928 as a two-year-old.

Work on the Queen’s head, from which the wax version will be cast, has now been completed.

The latest version, created at a cost of £150,000 is modelled on her official Jubilee portrait photograph, which was released in December.

Her figure will include a recreation of her white beaded lace dress with blue silk sash featuring the Queen’s Garter Badge, as well as a replica of the diamond and pearl George IV State Diadem.

It is expected to be unveiled in mid-May, replacing the current figure, created in 2001.
