Kate and William aim to please on Jubilee tour

Jubilee fever showed no signs of abating as the Duchess of Cambridge joined her husband and the Queen on the latest leg of the monarch’s tour.

The Royal trio were in Nottingham yesterday, where tens of thousands of well-wishers turned out to greet them.

The Duke of Cambridge paid tribute to the work of his grandmother and the Duke of Edinburgh in protecting “vital outdoor places” through their involvement with the charity Fields in Trust as they visited Vernon Park – the latest to be granted Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust status.

Prince William said: “This marvellous charity provides people of all ages up and down the country with the space to play sport, keep fit and generally get outside and enjoy themselves in the fresh air.”

His wife epitomised his words as she threw a foam javelin at a children’s sports event the park was hosting.

The Royals had earlier been greeted with cheers when they arrived at Nottingham railway station, and were met by thousands more well-wishers as they moved to the city centre.

A huge cheer went up from the 20,000-strong crowd as the Queen, Duke and Duchess arrived at Old Market Square.

They chatted to people in the square, some of whom had arrived at 5am, before moving into the Council House where they appeared on the balcony to a huge cheer while the national anthem was played.
