Kevin Pietersen caught out in Lamborghini dash

Ashes star Kevin Pietersen has been fined for speeding after taking a loaned Lamborghini for a drive on a day off from England training.

Cricketer Pietersen, man of the match for his career-best 227 in his team's second-Test win at Adelaide, is set to be rested

for a tour fixture against Victoria in Melbourne which starts

today.

So he did not train with his team-mates and instead took a drive along the Great Ocean Road.

The 30-year-old was fined 239 Australian dollars (150) for

driving at more than 120kmh (75mph) in a 100kmh (62mph) zone.

An England and Wles Cricket Board spokesman said: "He

(Pietersen) did pick up a speeding fine."

Pietersen's former Hampshire team-mate, the legendary Australian leg spinner Shane Warne, a publicity ambassador for Lamborghini, arranged for the England batsman to drive one of the Italian supercars for a day.

Pietersen told followers on Twitter that he was looking forward to the experience.

Then, before he was stopped, he tweeted

enthusiastically: "Stunning beaches on The Great Ocean Rd. Gorgeous drive."

No disciplinary action will be taken against Pietersen by England.

A police spokesman said: Geelong highway police detected by laser a yellow Lamborghini travelling north along the Geelong Ring Road at 121kph in a 100 zone about 2:35pm on Thursday.

"The male driver was in his 30s and was issued with a penalty and three demerit points. There were no passengers in the vehicle."

England are 1-0 up in the five-Test series as they head to Perth for the third encounter, which begins next Thursday.

In August, British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton was fined 500 Australian dollars for performing boy racer stunts in front of fans ahead of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
