A KEY meeting about the provision of cemeteries in Calderdale has been moved to Todmorden, so local people can have their say.

Calderdale Council has been examining a proposal to address the shortage of burial space in Todmorden by extending the cemetery at Lumbutts Methodist Church. The idea has prompted significant interest amongst the local community.

Members of the council’s safer and stronger communities panel will meet in Todmorden Town Hall on Thursday, October 14, at 6pm.

Scrutiny panel chairman Coun Ian Cooper said: “There is a real shortage of land for burials in Todmorden and we need to find a solution.

“Members will consider provision of cemeteries across Calderdale but this is of particular interest to people in Todmorden at the moment, so it’s right that we hold the meeting in the town.”
