POLICE investigating the murder of a Polish bakery worker found dead in a South Yorkshire flat yesterday appealed to the public in a attempt to discover more about her killer.

A post mortem examination carried out on Saturday proved inconclusive, but officers said they were satisfied that 30-year-old Agnieszka Dziegielewska had been murdered.

Miss Dziegielewska was found dead at her first-floor flat in Horsefair Close, of Temperance Street, in Swinton, near Rotherham on Thursday, and is believed to have been found in the bath.

Det Supt Colin Fisher, leading the murder inquiry, said: “A post mortem examination requires additional information before a cause of death can be formally established.

“However, I believe she was killed. The deceased was last seen alive when she left the Maple Leaf Bakery in Swinton, at about 6pm on Wednesday, January 27.

“When she failed to turn up for work the next day the police were alerted and found her in the bathroom of her own home. I believe the deceased let the killer or killers into her home.

“Her killer left after the attack, locking the door in the process. I now believe a red VW Golf with the registration W991 OSP is missing and ask for the help of the local community to trace this car.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who saw Agnieszka on Wednesday evening or any time on Thursday.”

Neighbours in the Horsefair Close area described the dead woman as young, polite and blonde. They said they had not seen her for several days before she was found.

One woman, who used to live in the block where Miss Dziegielewska was found said: “I lived in the block until the summer and because there were only six flats you would see each other coming and going all the time.

“She was a Polish woman and lived with her boyfriend, who I think was Polish too. I think they used to work nights, they used to go out every night and come back in the morning and you wouldn’t see them at all during the day.”

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Doncaster on Friday in connection with the incident and was yesterday being questioned by officers.
