The Department for Transport put forward part of a £10million fund for the new Kirkstall Forge station, which will provide a six-minute link to the city centre on the Bradford to Leeds line.

The investment at the former Kirkstall Forge site forms part of a wider vision to transform the area with more than 1,000 new homes. The new riverside community could create around 2,400 new jobs and bring around £400million of private sector investment to the area.

MP for Leeds West, Rachel Reeves, welcomed the news of the launch. She said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the first train pull into the station. The station unlocks a major development in Kirkstall, which is set to stimulate the local economy and will ultimately be a catalyst for major regeneration, much-needed housing delivery and job creation on a brownfield site.”
