Kiss-case taxi driver given suspended jail sentence

A TAXI driver convicted of kissing a passenger when she lent forward to discuss the fare has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Nasser Ahmed was found guilty of sexual assault on the teenage girl by a jury at Leeds Crown Court last month.

Peter Moulson, prosecuting, said the offence happened on June 1, 2008, when the girl and some friends got into his taxi.

Some had already been taken to their destination but the 17-year-old girl and one friend were still inside when it came to her turn to be dropped off.

Ahmed kissed her when she asked about the fare. The girl and her friend fled and told to the police.

Ahmed, 34, of Moorhill Avenue, Bradford, was given 26 weeks in jail suspended for two years with 12 months supervision and 150 hours unpaid work. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years.

Judge Kerry Macgill was told Ahmed was unlikely to work as a taxi driver again.
